1960 Army Reports
In the 1960s, the Argentine Navy was charged with the official investigation of UFO sightings, particularly those reported by its own personnel. A 1965 “Official UFO Report” prepared by Captain Sánchez Moreno from the Naval Air Station Comandante Espora in Bahía Blanca, revealed that:
“Between 1950 and 1965, personnel of Argentina’s Navy alone made 22 sightings of unidentified flying objects that were not airplanes, satellites, weather balloons or any type of known (aerial) vehicles. These 22 cases served as precedents for intensifying that investigation of the subject by the Navy. In the past two years, nine incidents have been recorded that are being studied by Captain Pagani and a team of military and civilian scientists and collaborators. Likewise, a meticulous questionnaire was drafted, printed and distributed to different bases. In a short time, the Service of Naval Intelligence was in possession of a stack of highly significant reports of testimonies. On the basis of this important documentation, it was possible to obtain a coherent overview of the problem.”
(Captain Sánchez Moreno, Informe Oficial O.V.N.I., Sumario S# A. 02778-DTO. OVNI, Naval Air Station Comandante Espora, in ICUFON Project World Authority for Spatial Affairs (W.A.S.A.), New York, 1979.)
Captain Engineer Omar R. Pagani, Director of the Argentine Navy UFO investigation team in the 1960s. As a result of a series of observations at Argentine and Chilean meteorological stations on Deception Island, Antarctica, in June and July 1965, Captain Pagani disclosed at a press conference that:
“The unidentified flying objects do exist. Their presence and intelligent displacement in the Argentine airspace has been proven. Their nature and origin is unknown and no judgement is made about them.” (Sánchez Moreno, ibid.)
In addition, the Argentine Navy Bulletin #172 of July 7, 1965 reported:
“From the Navy post at the South Orkney Islands comes a message of extreme importance: during the passage of the strange object over the base [earlier the same day], two magnetometers in perfect working condition registered sudden and strong disturbances of the magnetic field (at 17:03 hrs.), which were recorded on their tapes.”
(Perissé, Captain D. A., “Deception Island UFO Sightings,” in the MUFON 1987 International UFO Symposium Proceedings, Washington, D.C., June 1987.)
The witness, was a high-ranking officer of the Argentinean Air Force (AAF), Hugo F. Niotti, then a captain of the AAF assigned to the Air Force School for Sub-officers located in the city of Cordoba.
At approximately 4:30 PM, he was in the area of Villa General Belgrano, about 70 Km from the city of Cordoba, when he suddenly noticed a rather close and unusual object hovering near the ground to the right of the road.
The object was conical in shape, the color of the object was a uniform dark gray, and the surface was perfectly smooth without joints or rivets, had a definite metallic aspect.
This sighting is called The Adhara Observatory UFO Lunar Transit. It takes place on January 12, 1965 at 8:30 pm, at the private-owner Adhara Observatory in San Miguel, Buenos Aires province. Scientists received several calls concerning strange objects visible on the moon. The staff of the observatory photographed the moon in fixed intervals; after processing, some photos revealed disk shaped objects flying in front of the moon. Some experts think that the UFOs on the photos are probably a fault in the processing of the film.
At 15:00 on 6 September 1970, young Sergio E. Schlimovich, preparing to photograph the Parana River from the terraza of his home, saw and shot 2 color photographs of a shiny, circular metallic-looking, disc-shaped object flying low in the air beyond an antenna station nearby.
The original photographs, when developed, showed a bright bluish silver domed disc that reflected the sunlight brilliantly as it flew over the city of Parana from North to South at an altitude of some 200 meters. The object emitted a soft humming sound as it flew overhead.
Seconds after obtaining the second picture the object accelerated and heard a loud explosion and the object vanished from view leaving in its place a small cloud of whitish smoke which the wind dispersed before Schlimovich got a picture of it.
The smoothly contoured disc-shaped craft had a very slightly curved convex bottom of a darker color and a bright shiny domed top rising in a high smooth curve from the edge of the object. The top reflected the suns rays brilliantly as it moved. There were no ports, holes, seams of projections of any kind to mar the perfectly smooth surface.
On October 30 truck driver Dionisio Llanca was admitted to the Municipal Hospital of Bahía Blanca. He claimed that on the night of October 27, he left his uncle’s home in Bahia Blanca to travel to Río Gallegos when he stopped to change a tire and became paralyzed by an intense light. According to Llanca, he saw an object in the sky and beings he described as two men and a woman who subjected him to some form of medical testing. Llanca says he briefly awoke hours later approximately 9 kilometers away. The case was investigated by UFO researcher Fabio Zerpa and published on his book «El Reino Subterráneo».
July 19, 1974, at Balcarce, Argentina, disc-shaped metal-looking flying object approached an automobile driven Sr. Antonio Le Pere. It was near 18:00 hours when Le Pere noticed the intruder keeping pace with him from a position only a few hundred meters to his left, and barely 10 meters above the ground there. He slowed his automobile as he worked on his camera to take a picture, before it started climbing and flew away. Le Pere took the pictures through the rolled down window on the driver’s side of the car, shooting over his left arm holding the steering wheel. The object was of a coppery-brownish smooth finished reflective material like metal, or something between a metal and ceramic finish. It had a raised dome on the top surface of the craft, and seemed to have a reddish glow either on the rim edge or surrounding the rim very closely to the ship. The strange machine flew a steady course and was quite obviously under intelligent control.
A silver UFO flew over Villa Urquiza, a high density area in the city of Buenos Aires. It is considered the most spectacular UFO incident of Argentina, with more than 7,500 witnesses. The local airport reported an object flying to the west, towards General Paz Avenue seen on the radars on that sunny afternoon.
By Alexander Mikitiuk: The photograph was taken in the area of the mountain range of Berries, Olavarría, in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
He did not see the unknown object when he took the photograph, but only noticed it later when uploading photographs to his computer.
The photograph was subjected to analysis by Patricio J. Precipices, who concluded that the UFO in the photograph was indeed a solid object, and was present when the photograph was snapped.
Many investigators in Argentina called these objects “Ghost UFOs,” which indicate that the object was present at the time of the taking of a photograph, but the human eye could not perceive it.
The photograph is being called one of the best of the year 2009, and possibly the last decade.
